How you can help make a better world of work

We are looking for a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join our Coach team. Our team sits within the Core Experiences Camp, and is building a new and exciting AI product, whilst helping grow the AI capabilities and expertise throughout the organisation.

As part of this team of amazing humans,

  • Build, deploy, and maintain high-performance machine learning models to power AI-driven products.
  • Design and operate large-scale ML systems, including LLM gateways, batch inference pipelines, and RAG-powered applications.
  • Drive MLOps and LLMOps best practices across the organization, ensuring scalability, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Lead the development of custom LLM architectures, pre-training strategies, and cost optimization techniques.
  • Build and optimize data pipelines using Kafka to handle large-scale data processing for AI applications.
  • Implement and fine-tune vector databases for fast search, retrieval, and AI-driven insights.
  • Define and uphold SLAs, SLOs, and incident response strategies for ML services.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and data scientists to deliver impactful AI solutions while mentoring and supporting the team.
  • Expertise in Python and are proficient with ML libraries and frameworks.
  • Experience with working in data lakes, Kafka streams, and managing large datasets at scale.
  • Experience with vector databases and vector search, and know how to optimize them for AI use cases.
  • Extensive experience in database optimization, both in terms of query performance and efficient data storage for AI applications.
  • Built and deployed machine learning models in production, with a focus on performance, scalability, and accuracy.
  • A strong understanding of backend architecture, particularly around microservices and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP)
  • Experience building, implementing and optimising Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) models to enhance AI applications.
  • A “can-do” attitude, thrive in high-pressure environments, and communicate clearly and proactively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, comfortable dealing with ambiguity when necessary. You take the initiative to ensure that you have everything you need to work effectively and ask for support when required.
  • A driver of technical excellence in a team environment. You’re an expert in your domain and are able to develop the expertise and knowledge of those around you.
  • Someone who loves collaboration - our teams are cross functional and you’ll be working with other engineers, team leads and product managers to deliver great outcomes together.
  • Aligned with our values, check them out here: https://www.cultureamp.com/company#values and demonstrate them through your working practice.
