Overview of the role
As a Senior Electronics Engineer in our Photonics R&D division, you will be instrumental in developing next-generation navigation sensors for a range of terrestrial and space applications including landing on the Moon. This role will leverage your expertise in digital and analog electronics, requiring strong attention to detail, and a willingness to drive electronics development and make critical decisions in a highly dynamic environment. From conceptualisation, circuit design and PCB layout, to environmental qualification, and production process optimization, you'll play a vital role in every stage of product development.
Role Responsibilities
Drive Electronics Design and Decision-Making: Take a proactive role in driving electronics design, making informed decisions on-the-fly to address challenges and optimize performance throughout the development process.Electronic Design Capture and Layout: Utilize your expertise in Altium to capture electronic designs and create layouts that meet stringent performance and reliability requirements.Electronics Qualification and Certification: Lead the process of qualifying and certifying electronics components and systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards such as MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-810, among others.Managing Electronics Production: Oversee all aspects of electronics production, including working closely with contract manufacturers (CMs) to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables.High-Speed Analogue/RF Design Experience: While not essential, your analogue design experience will be valuable in optimizing the performance of our electronics operating at bandwidths exceeding 300MHz.Military or Space-Grade Electronics Design (Desirable): Experience in designing electronics to meet military or space-grade standards will be advantageous, though not essential.Practical Experience On the Tools: As a hands-on engineer, you will apply your practical skills to the development and testing process, ensuring the feasibility and effectiveness of designs. This involves use of SMD rework equipment to build/modify assemblies and use of high-end test equipment to characterize and debug designs.
Qualifications and Experience
BEng or BSc in Electrical Engineering (equivalent qualification)7+ years of experience in designing and developing complex electronics with specific experience in precision analogue data acquisition, processing, and high speed digital circuitsProficient in using industry standard tools such as SPICE and Altium DesignerBachelor degree or higher in electrical/electronic engineering and/or mechatronicsA track record of turning high level discussions into detailed, personal work plans and reporting progress to managementExtensive exposure to systems engineering principles and practicesA proactive self-starting approach with a track record of initiative, personal responsibility, ownership of work and reputation for making things happenBe highly motivated with an energetic, responsive and decisive disposition;Strong knowledge of WHS practices;Proven high standard of attention to detail, time management and “follow-through”.
