About the role

As a Web Developer at Sonder, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining our dynamic online presence. You’ll be responsible for designing, developing, and continuously enhancing our website using WordPress and headless CMS architecture. This role involves managing a comprehensive site, ensuring each page is responsive, optimised, and engaging.

We’re looking for a candidate with deep expertise in WordPress development and hands-on experience with headless CMS solutions. Your mission will be to keep our website alive and thriving—addressing updates, implementing security enhancements, and swiftly addressing any issues. With your finger on the pulse of web performance, you’ll ensure our site remains fast, up-to-date, and delivering a seamless and user-friendly experience.

What you’ll be doing

Build and maintain the Sonder website using WordPress and headless CMS frameworks, ensuring optimal performance and scalability
Collaborate closely with the marketing team, including our Brand Designer, to ensure the website is visually appealing and user-friendly
Optimise the website for speed, performance, conversion rates, and SEO to enhance user experience and effectiveness
Implement and manage integrations with various APIs and third-party services, ensuring seamless functionality across platforms
Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in web development, particularly in WordPress and headless CMS technologies, and apply this knowledge to ongoing projects
Build, update, and maintain the WordPress and headless CMS website, ensuring it remains secure, scalable, and easy to manage
Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and deliver high-quality solutions
Continuously optimise the website for performance, user experience, and SEO
Monitor website performance, report on key metrics, and make recommendations for improvements as necessary

Who are we looking for?

What you bring to the team;

Proven experience in WordPress development, including custom themes and plugin development
Experience with headless CMS solutions such as WordPress Headless CMS and Contentful
Strong understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and responsive design
Familiarity with RESTful APIs and JSON
Experience with version control systems like Git
Knowledge of SEO best practices
Experience in optimising web performance, including loading speed and responsiveness.
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred
Passionate about web development and creating high-quality websites
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
